The attention of the University Management has been drawn to a misleading publication being peddled on some social media platforms claiming that some Universities in Nigeria currently running postgraduate programmes did not secure the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run such programmes.

In the purported publication, the reporter published an “updated” list of approved postgraduate awarding institutions in Nigeria of which Federal University Lokoja (FUL), which had obtained NUC’s approval in July 2019 after a successful Resource Verification conducted by a Team of Experts from the Commission, was conspicuously and erroneously removed/omitted from the list to cause disaffections and doubts in the minds of our dear Postgraduate Students and the general public.

Such publications which the University Management noted with great displeasure was not just malicious but also misleading and capable of causing fear, especially among the students who are currently running various Programmes in the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) of Federal University Lokoja.

Therefore, we wish to state categorically that Federal University Lokoja received the approval of NUC to run Postgraduate Programmes (PGD/M.Sc./PhD) in various disciplines effective from the 2019/2020 Academic Session following the successful Resource Assessment/Evaluation conducted in the University by the NUC in April 2019. However, only two programmes, namely: Political Science and Economics did not secure the NUC’s approval to run at the PhD level but got approval to run both PGD and the M.Sc respectively.

Furthermore, the University Management has drawn the attention of the National Universities Commission to the said publication which they have refuted, urging the students of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Federal University Lokoja to be calm and ignore such malicious publications which it described as “FAKE NEWS” as it did not originate from the Commission.
