On Wednesday,
March 31, 2021, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, Professor
Olayemi Akinwumi and his Management Team paid courtesy visits to Security
Agencies within the State including the Nigerian Police, Nigeria Security and
Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Kogi State Command of the Nigerian Vigilante
Services.
It was like a
General's reception at the Kogi State Command of NSCDC as the Vice-Chancellor was
warmly received with generous Guards Salutes and equally had the honour to
inspect the parade at both the NSCDC and Kogi Vigilante Services' Commands.
During the visit,
the University Management sat in audience with the Commissioner
of Police, CP Ede Ayuba Ekpeji and his DCPs, same with the Commandant of NSCDC,
Mr. Peter Maigeri, as well as with the Commandant of the Kogi State Vigilante
Services, Colonel Hassan S. Aliyu.
Lots of
internal security issues were discussed. Prominent among them were on building
stronger synergy between the University and all the Security Agencies in the
State, for a crime-free Federal University Lokoja.
The Vice-Chancellor,
Professor Olayemi Akinwumi stressed the need for a more robust security
presence on the two campuses of the University, particularly the Felele Campus
where the beam light of activities of the University was currently focused.
Professor
Akinwumi used the opportunity to ask the security agencies to post their men to
the newly constructed and commissioned Security Posts at the Felele Campus for
effective policing of the area.
He equally urged
the Commands to encourage their men who desire to further their education to take
advantage of the location of the University in acquiring additional degrees in
Peace and Conflicts Studies, Criminology, Security Strategic Studies, Forensic
Investigation, etc at the Postgraduate
Levels.
The visits
became imperative in order to strengthen the existing bonds between the various
Security Commands and Federal University Lokoja, as efforts are being made to
restructure the internal security architecture of the University for optimum
performance, in protecting lives and properties of both Staff and Students, and
the entire University Community.
