Today, history was made as the College of Health Sciences (COHS), Federal University Lokoja (FUL) conducts CBT Screening Exercise for its FIRST set of candidates who participated in the 2021 UTME and applied for admission into its Medical Programme - Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB;BS) for the 2021/2022 academic session.

About 142 candidates who scored a minimum of 220 in the 2021 UTME registered and participated in the screening exercise which took place at the College's ICT Center, Adankolo Campus.

Interestingly, this admission process for the first set of candidates for the Medical Programme is coming just one year after the Steering Committee for its establishment chaired by Professor Ozovehe Mike Ogirima mni (now Provost of the College) was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi following Senate approval on 26th May, 2021.

Upon assumption of office in February, 2021, the Vice-Chancellor had announced, as part of his vision plan, his desire to establish the College of Health Sciences for the University, and went ahead to put the machinery in motion with a view to ensuring that the Programme commenced on a solid footing.

Consequently, in February 2022, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) gave its nod for the College to start admitting students into the new Medical Programme of the University following the Council's Advisory Visit.

Similarly, the National Universities Commission (NUC), after carrying out its Resource Assessment/Verification in March 2022, approved MBBS Programme for FUL.

Indeed, this is a dream come true for the Professor Akinwumi-led Administration; another milestone that will go into the annals of history of the eleven-year-old University, a major part of his achievements within fifteen months in office as the first indigenous Vice-Chancellor.

Congratulations to the entire Management Team under the pragmatic leadership of a visionary and selfless Vice-Chancellor who gave the needed support and worked tirelessly towards ensuring the success of the new Programme. Click here to view more pictures
