THE FIRST NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY LOKOJA, KOGI STATE, NIGERIA
Date: Monday 9th – Thursday 12th September, 2024
THEME: GOVERNANCE AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHALLENGEs: IMPLICATIONS ON CITIZENS’ WELFARE IN NIGERIA
Concept Note:
Nigeria faces a multitude of governance and socio-economic challenges that have significant implications for its development and citizens’ welfare. While there is a high rate of poverty and unemployment accompanied by skyrocketing inflation and cost of living, many Nigerians lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation. More so, the upsurge of insecurity and food crises pervade the entire landscape. Again, climate change and conflict shocks disproportionally affect the poor. Generally, poor leadership and bad governance are the incubators of these crises. The decline in state capacity and the inability of leaders to recognise and attend to systemic risks is a major challenge.
Consequently, the Faculty of Social Sciences, Federal University Lokoja invites well-researched papers and submissions on the following or related sub-themes to be interrogated at her Maiden National Conference.
