Objectives

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The B.Eng Mechanical Engineering programme at FUL is designed to produce graduates who, within a few years of graduation, will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate high-level professional competence in Mechanical Engineering by applying sound scientific and engineering principles to design, implement and maintain innovative, sustainable and globally relevant solutions to complex engineering challenges.
  2. Contribute to technological advancement and industrial growth through research, innovation, and development of engineering system, processes and product that address national and global challenges.
  3. Provide responsible followership and leadership and function effectively in multidisciplinary teams while upholding professional ethics, system standards sustainability and social responsibility in engineering practice.
  4. Pursue continuous professional development through advanced studies, certifications, research engagement, and active participation in recognised professional bodies to sustain career growth and adapt to emerging technologies.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

Graduates of the B.Eng Mechanical Engineering programme at FUL are expected to demonstrate the following outcomes upon completion of their studies. These outcomes are aligned with the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) CCMAS, COREN Outcome-Based Education (OBE) standards, and international best practices:

  1. Apply knowledge of maths, science, engineering fundamentals, and Mechanical Engineering principles to solve complex engineering problems.
  2. Identify, formulate, review, and analyse Mechanical Engineering problems using principles of engineering sciences and relevant methodologies.
  3. Design mechanical systems, components, or processes that meet specified needs, taking into consideration health, safety, cultural, societal, and environmental factors.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex Mechanical Engineering problems using research-based knowledge, experimental methods, and data analysis to draw valid conclusions.
  5. Select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern Mechanical Engineering tools, including CAD, modelling, and simulation, to Mechanical Engineering practice.
  6. Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues relevant to Mechanical Engineering practice.
  7. Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, responsibilities, and norms of Mechanical Engineering practice.
  8. Function effectively both as an individual and as a member or leader of diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  9. Communicate effectively on complex Mechanical Engineering activities with the engineering community and society at large, including the ability to prepare clear reports, documentation, design specifications, and make effective presentations.
  10. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Mechanical Engineering and management principles and apply them to manage projects in multidisciplinary environments.
