It was a remarkable day in the history of Federal University Lokoja as the School of Post-Graduate Studies commences activities. This follows the inauguration of the Board of the School of Post-Graduate Studies, Faculty and Departmental PG Committees by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Angela Freeman Miri on Thursday, 4th October, 2017 at the Senate Chambers, Adankolo Campus of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor while giving her remark said, it was a dream come true as the inauguration of the PG Board and PG Committees will fast-track the commencement of the PG programmes. Moreover, Professor Miri said, it was important for the PG School to start first, and expressed hope that the National Universities’ Commission (NUC) would appreciate what they have done and grant the University approval soon. She further stated that the School of Post-Graduate Studies would admit only for the programmes that are presently on the ground. The Vice-Chancellor thanked the Senate for the approval and members of the University community, the academic community particularly, for offering themselves to be of service in the teaching of the Post-Graduate programmes.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the pioneer Dean of the School of Post-Graduate Studies, Professor Patrick Amidu Audu, who doubles as the Chairman of the PG Board, expressed joy over the commencement of the long awaited PG School. In another statement, the Dean enjoined intending applicants to watch out for adverts soon, stressing that machineries are being put in place to facilitate the smooth take-off and commencement of academic activities of the School of Post-Graduate Studies in the University.
It would be recalled that Mr. Shamaki Nuhu, a Deputy Registrar in the University was also appointed Secretary to the School of Post-Graduate Studies alongside the appointment of the Dean earlier this year. Both of them are pioneer staff of the University since its inception in 2011.
