The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kogi State Command, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening security and safety within the university community.
Leading a delegation from the Department of Intelligence and Investigation to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, the Team Lead, DCC Onward A. Nwekoyo, conveyed the goodwill and regards of the State Commandant of the NSCDC to the Vice-Chancellor.
DCC Nwekoto said the visit formed part of the Corps’ “Safe School Initiative,” a presidential programme aimed at ensuring the safety of students, staff and host communities across the country.
According to him, the Command had carried out strategic intelligence surveys around the university environment to identify security challenges affecting students and neighbouring communities.
He noted that the NSCDC was seeking stronger collaboration with the university management and other stakeholders to improve intelligence gathering, sensitization and internal security within the institution.
Also speaking, the Assistant Commandant in charge of Investigation, ACC Momoh Wasiu, expressed concern over rising cases of criminal activities involving some students and members of the host communities.
He stressed the need for increased awareness and stronger measures to ensure that offenders are appropriately sanctioned.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, appreciated the Commandant’s goodwill message and commended the NSCDC for its continued partnership with the university.
Professor Ibileye noted that the university relies heavily on intelligence-driven security measures and collaboration with security agencies to maintain peace and safety on campus.
He emphasized the importance of sensitization and preventive measures, while condemning crimes such as armed robbery within the university community.
