The Federal University Lokoja has reinforced its commitment to safe transportation and professional service delivery with a two day capacity building programme for its drivers, organized in collaboration with the Vehicle Inspection Office.

The training, held from 25 to 26 June 2026 at the University Multipurpose Hall, equipped participants with practical knowledge on road safety, vehicle maintenance, professional driving ethics and regulatory compliance.

Declaring the programme open on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Jacqueline A. Badaki, described transportation as a vital component of the University's daily operations. 

She noted that university drivers carry the responsibility of conveying staff, students, visitors and official resources safely, making professionalism, discipline, vigilance and sound knowledge of traffic regulations indispensable.

Professor Badaki urged participants to actively engage in every session, share experiences and apply the knowledge gained to improve safety and service delivery across the University.

Delivering a presentation on vehicle management, the Chief Inspector Officer of the Vehicle Inspection Office, Engr. Ahmed Dauda Enesi, called for stricter monitoring of university vehicles to improve accountability and extend their lifespan. 

He recommended assigning designated drivers to specific vehicles, maintaining logbooks to document vehicle usage and servicing, and promoting professional conduct through proper appearance and adherence to workplace ethics.

Participants also received practical guidance on vehicle inspection from Engr. Mohammed Yakubu Ohikwo, who emphasized the importance of conducting thorough checks before and after every trip to detect faults early and ensure roadworthiness.

Speaking on professional driving techniques, Engr. Isah Momoh Jimoh Ahovi stressed that safe driving requires more than the ability to operate a vehicle. He highlighted the need for defensive driving skills, compliance with traffic regulations, proper documentation and responsible conduct on the road as essential measures for protecting lives and property.

Highlights of the event include the inspection of participants' driver's licences to confirm their validity, interactive question and answer sessions, and practical demonstrations on vehicle assessment, providing drivers with hands on experience to reinforce the lessons from the training.
