The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Ibileye, has pledged his continued support to the leadership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Lokoja & District Society, for their relentless commitment to the training and professional development of undergraduate accounting students of the institution.

Professor Ibileye stated this on 7th May 2026, when he received the executive of ICAN Lokoja and District Society along with some students who recently qualified as professional accountants. The courtesy visit was led by the Director, School of Preliminary Studies and immediate past Head of the Department of Accounting, Professor Emmanuel Eneche Onoja, FCA, who introduced members of the delegation and the students.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the District Society, Mr. Salami Abdulazzez, FCA, informed the Vice-Chancellor that the purpose of their visit, as a leading global professional body, was to formally congratulate him on his well-deserved appointment and successful inauguration as the 4th Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja.

He noted that the visit was also to seek renewed collaboration with his administration in the training and professional development of both staff and students, and to present accounting students of the university who have recently passed the ICAN professional examinations after weeks of rigorous preparations and qualified as professional accountants.

The ICAN Chairman thanked the University Management for their support and cooperation and for providing an enabling environment that aided the undergraduate students to qualify as chartered accountants in a timely manner, even before graduating from the university.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor expressed profound appreciation on behalf of management to ICAN leadership in Lokoja for providing professional guidance and mentorship to the young accountants and students of the institution, which has, in no small measure, contributed to their academic success and qualification as professional accountants.

He expressed great joy that FUL is now mentioned for the right reason, describing the achievement as a positive development that would add to the rising profile and reputation of the university as a citadel of learning known for academic excellence and committed to raising technocrats and world-class professionals who are well-grounded in their disciplines and can compete favourably with their counterparts both nationally and globally.

The Vice-Chancellor added that his vision was to see Federal University Lokoja leading in different disciplines such as Accounting, Medicine, Law, Engineering, Music, Theatre, and other fields of study, commending the ICAN leadership for already advancing this vision and contributing to FUL’s emergence as a leading institution in research, innovation, and academic excellence.

Professor Ibileye commended the Chairman and his team for their quality leadership at the district level. He also restated his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment that supports ICAN initiatives and encourages collaboration to achieve institutional goals.

While congratulating the students on their recent achievements, the Vice-Chancellor announced that a dinner would be held to recognize and celebrate the students for their determination, resilience, and success as qualified chartered accountants.

The meeting ended with a sense of fulfillment and renewed commitment to a shared vision of sustaining the existing partnership between FUL and ICAN that will usher in more meaningful progress and sustainable growth while repositioning the university for global relevance. See more pictures here
