The Student Union Government (SUG) of Federal University Lokoja, led by President Comrade Joseph Adopisa Adomu, on Tuesday, 17th March, 2026, organised a palliative distribution for Muslim and Christian students observing the fasting periods of Ramadan and Lent.
The initiative, described as a gesture of support and inclusivity, provided relief materials to students amid the ongoing economic challenges and rising cost of living.
Among the guests was Hon. Charity Ijese, the Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Youth and Women Mobilization. In her remarks, she commended the SUG President for the initiative, describing it as thoughtful and impactful.
She encouraged students to be intentional about their personal development and to strike a balance between academic and social life. She also cautioned against the growing trend of young people seeking illicit wealth and the pressure it creates among peers, urging students to adopt a “zero tension” mindset and remain focused on legitimate means of success.
Speaking further, she highlighted the youth-inclusive governance of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, noting that a significant portion of his cabinet comprises young people. As part of her contribution, she pledged a cash support of ₦5,000 each to 10 vulnerable students.
The event also featured the recognition of Lt. Yakub Momoh, a senior military officer, as well as the former SUG President, Comrade Olorunfemi Benjamin (Ben Praise).
In his address, the Student Union President, Comrade Joseph Adopisa Adomu, described the programme as a timely intervention, particularly in light of the current economic realities. He noted that the initiative was the first of its kind in the university and reaffirmed the union’s commitment to student welfare.
The event, held at Lecture Hall B, Felele Campus, recorded a large turnout, with the venue filled to capacity as students received food items distributed during the programme. See more pictures here
