The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye, has charged the 1,090 newly admitted students of the Faculty of Social Sciences to uphold discipline, maintain academic focus, and commit themselves to excellence throughout their stay in the university.

The charge was delivered on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall, Felele Campus, during the faculty's 100-Level Orientation Programme for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, an event designed to formally welcome the fresh students into the academic community and set the tone for their university journey.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. S. D.  Musa congratulated the students on securing admission into the university and charged them to remain focused, disciplined, and unwavering in their commitment to academic excellence throughout the course of their studies.

"Let me on behalf of the Vice Chancellor officially congratulate and welcome all of you on securing admission into this institution. I encourage you all to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to academic excellence," he said, as he declared the orientation open.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Gbenga Omofa, warned the students against acts capable of damaging the image of the institution. He advised them to avoid littering the campus, examination malpractice, and any form of violence.

The Dean also encouraged students to act as whistleblowers when they notice wrongdoing in order to protect themselves and the integrity of the university community.

He further urged them to always show courtesy, maintain good character, and dress decently while on campus. According to him, the faculty recorded a total of 1,090 newly admitted students for the session.

Also, the Chairperson of the Orientation Committee, Dr. A.A. Adaranijo, encouraged the students to remain dedicated to their studies and strive for academic excellence.

She emphasized the importance of hard work and determination in achieving good grades and making the most of their university experience. She thereafter officially declared the orientation programme open.

A highlight of the event was a series of presentations by various resource persons, culminating in an engaging panel session featuring the Heads of Department of all the departments that make up the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The session gave the new students a firsthand opportunity to interact with academic leaders across the faculty's departments, gain insight into departmental expectations, and better understand the academic pathways available to them within the faculty. See more pictures here
