The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, recently paid a strategic visit to renowned diplomat and statesman, Professor Ibrahim Gambari OCOT, CFR, in a move aimed at strengthening institutional partnerships and advancing the University’s developmental agenda.
Professor Gambari, who is a former United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and erstwhile Chief of Staff to the late Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, warmly received the Vice-Chancellor and commended the progress being made by Federal University Lokoja in its relatively short history.
During the visit, Professor Gambari expressed his willingness to support the University in several key areas. Notably, he pledged to serve as a pro bono lobbyist to facilitate access to grants and funding opportunities that would help address critical infrastructural needs. These include the development of student hostels, modern laboratories, and office complexes, among other essential facilities required to sustain the Institution’s growth.
In addition, Professor Gambari assured the University of his readiness to enhance its visibility both nationally and internationally through his Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD). He emphasized the importance of strategic positioning and global engagement in elevating the University’s profile and attracting partnerships.
Highlighting his existing relationship with the Institution, Professor Gambari remarked that he already considers himself a member of the University community, having delivered the 4th Distinguished Public Lecture in 2024. He reiterated his commitment to contributing meaningfully to its continued development and academic excellence.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed profound appreciation for Professor Gambari’s generous commitments, describing them as timely and pivotal to the University’s aspirations. He noted that such support would significantly accelerate ongoing efforts to transform Federal University Lokoja into a centre of excellence in teaching, research, and community service.
The visit marks a significant step in the University’s drive to build strong alliances with distinguished personalities and leverage their expertise and networks for sustainable growth. See more pictures here
