The Federal University Lokoja International College held a special music concert to honor the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, in recognition of his support and commitment to advancing basic and secondary education at the university. The event, held on the school grounds, featured performances by students and staff showcasing a mix of cultural, classical, and contemporary pieces.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Principal of the college, Dr. Oluyomi Michael Olorunjuwon, said the concert was organized to express gratitude for the VC’s leadership and the attention given to the school since he assumed office. He noted that the college had benefited from improved infrastructure, academic support, and increased visibility under the current administration.
The College Administrator, Hajiya Habiba Anavoza Adeiza, also stated that the event was to honour a VC who rose “from teaching to teaching the teachers.” She emphasized that pupils should emulate the good example set by professors, particularly Prof. Solomon Gbenga Ibileye.
She added that the honour was necessary, noting that Professor Ibileye remains an inspiration to the younger generation. "You set a target for yourself, and you achieved it, indeed it is worthy of emulation."
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception and impressive performances displayed by the students, noting that what was showcased truly reflected the institution’s international outlook.
According to him, “what we've seen this afternoon has convinced us that this International College is indeed International.” He commended the discipline, harmony, synchrony, and choreography exhibited during the performances, stressing that such excellence comes when people dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to what they love doing.
The Vice-Chancellor also reassured the school community of the University management’s commitment to improving the College’s facilities and learning environment. He disclosed plans to provide befitting classroom furniture, give the schools a facelift to meet international standard, and urgently address the issue of water supply.
Looking ahead, Prof. Ibileye revealed that the University is already working on a more sustainable future for the College with the commencement of a proposed four-storey structure at Felele for a befitting International College. He, however, noted that the college would remain at the Adankolo campus in the meantime for accessibility and logistics reasons.
“The arts and academics go hand in hand in building well-rounded students. Events like this remind us of the value of creativity in education,” the Vice Chancellor added.
The highlight of the event was a joint performance by the college choreography and cultural troupes, which received a standing ovation from the audience.
The concert drew members of the university community, including the DVC Academic, Prof. S. D. Musa; Registrar, Dr. Rebecca Amiohu Okojie; Bursar, Mr John Sule Shilo; Director of Legal Services, Barr. Amina Ahmadu; and the Director of Strategic Communication and Corporate Documentation (DSCCD), Dr. Tosin Olagunju, alongside students, parents, and other invited guests.
