The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has inaugurated the University Central Accreditation Committee with a charge on members to sustain the institution’s academic standards through effective accreditation and reaccreditation processes.

Professor Ibileye described the assignment as an enormous responsibility that requires commitment and synergy across all units of the university.

He expressed satisfaction that all programmes of the university currently enjoy accreditation by the National Universities Commission, noting that programmes previously awaiting full status had just been announced at Senate as fully accredited.

“If we do not have full accreditation, there is always a level of doubt about the credibility of the programmes. Accreditation is not a one-off exercise because there is always room for reaccreditation,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that officials of the National Universities Commission are expected on May 17 for the accreditation of the Nursing programmes.

He said the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic would chair the committee and periodically brief management on its activities and concerns requiring attention.

Professor Ibileye thereafter formally inaugurated the committee and reminded members that their terms of reference were clearly stated in their appointment letters.

Members of the committee are Professor Abdullahi Musa Yusuf, Professor Magnus M. C. Anyakudo, Professor Simonyan Kayode Joseph, Professor Sunday Inyokwo Otinche, and Professor Suleiman Nasiruddeen M.

Others include: Professor Hadi Suberu Ahmed, Professor Joseph Ehimide Olorunmola, Dr. Danjuma Mohammed Ismaila, Engr. Kayode Ojo Olukayode, Mr. Khalid Ishaq, Mr. Sanusi Halidu Abubakar, and Mr. Usman Abdulkadir Yakubu.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Salihu Danlami Musa, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the confidence reposed in members.

He described the committee as a team of tested professionals drawn from different sectors of the university with the experience required to deliver effectively.

Professor Musa assured management that the committee would work diligently to sustain the best accreditation standards for the institution.
