The Federal University Lokoja has constituted a University Community Security Relations Committee as part of measures to strengthen security within the institution and its host communities.

The committee was approved at the University's 123rd Regular Management Meeting to foster cordial relationships between the University and the surrounding communities, particularly on matters relating to security and community engagement.

Accordingly, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof. Jacqueline Badaki will serve as Chairman of the committee, while membership cuts across the University's security architecture, security/law enforcement agencies, traditional institutions, religious bodies, transport unions, staff and student unions, and representatives of the host communities.

The broad composition reflects the University's resolve to promote collaboration, intelligence sharing and collective responsibility in addressing security concerns.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has consistently maintained that security is a shared responsibility that requires the active participation of every stakeholder.

He has repeatedly stressed that the safety of lives and property remains a priority of his administration and that sustainable security can only be achieved through strong partnerships between the University, security agencies and the host communities.

Professor Ibileye noted that the committee was deliberately constituted to bring every critical stakeholder to one table.

According to him, lasting solutions to security challenges require open communication, mutual trust and coordinated action.

He expressed confidence that the committee would strengthen existing relationships, improve information sharing and provide a practical platform for preventing and responding to security issues affecting both the University and its neighbouring communities.

Meanwhile, all security agencies and stakeholders involved upon communication are expected to send their nominees via the appropriate channel to enable the committee to commence its assignment.
