Institute of Gender Studies
Preamble
Gender studies have become increasingly crucial in understanding and addressing societal issues related to diversity, equality, and inclusion. The United Nations, as the gateway and advocate of gender equity, has been unrelentless in its advocacy for humane gender nations. Every year, the United Nations comes up with a gender mission for an equitable gender world that protects and ensures rights for all, including sexual identities, girl-child rights, and women protection. The UN initiatives are only effective when they are localised.
It is in light of adding to the quotients of impact with the localised areas that the Federal University Lokoja proposes a institute for gender equality, equity, and inclusion—through research, workshops, outreaches, grants, publications, and lecture series. These proposed gender activities are further informed by the philosophy, mission, objectives, and fast-paced developments that are defining the university's greatness and global visibility. Therefore, the university recognises the importance of advancing gender parity and mainstreaming in the University, the catchment areas and beyond. By doing so, the university hopes to globalise its engagement with and contributions to the UN84 agenda and mission. To this end, an institute of gender studies is hereby proposed for the Federal University Lokoja, named: The Federal University Lokoja Institute of Gender Studies (FUL IGS).
