The Senate of Federal University Lokoja (FUL) at its 67th meeting held on Thursday, 4th November, 2021 at the Senate Chamber, Adankolo Campus appointed Professor Abdullahi Emmanuel Bala as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
Professor Bala, a Geologist from the Department of Geology, was the Dean, Faculty of Science, a position he held until his recent appointment. He was also the Pioneer Head of the Department and delivered the 3rd Inaugural Lecture of the University on the topic: “The Hydrogeolist and Sustainable Ground Water Supply” on 30th March, 2021.
In his address earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi informed members of Senate that the election of a second Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) would take place during the meeting, stressing that the University has come of age to have a second DVC. Thereafter, the Vice-Chancellor presented names of two (2) nominated scholars who were eminently qualified for the revered position – Professor Abdullahi Emmanuel Bala and Professor Patrick Amidu Audu (the immediate past Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies).
However, the supposed election did not hold as planned. The event took a new turn as Professor Audu announced to distinguished members of Senate that he would step down for his “brother” - Professor Bala, a gesture that was highly applauded at the meeting.
Recall that Professor Mohammed Suleiman Audu was earlier appointed as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor by Senate at its 59th meeting held on Thursday, 25th March, 2021. Therefore, with the new appointment of the second DVC, Professor Mohammed Suleiman Audu and Professor Abdullahi Emmanuel Bala have been designated as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) respectively.
Congratulations!
