Ful Sports Unit Organizes Staff 5-aside Football Competition

The first edition of the Federal University Lokoja Staff 5-Aside Football Competition was held between December 1 and 11, 2004 at the Sport Complex in Adankolo Campus of the University.  The 11-day competition which was organized by the Sports Unit of the University involved teams from the Registry Department (comprising the Vice Chancellor’s office, the Academic office and the Students’ Affairs Unit), Bursary Department (comprising the Internal Audit, the Procurement Unit, and the Central Stores), Physical Planning and Development Department, University Security Services, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science, Management Information Systems and the University Library, and Sports Centre (comprising the University Health Services and the Environmental Services).

 

The main objective of the competition is to improve health, fitness and quality of life of staff of the University.  This is because engaging in physical activity helps to prevent illness and diseases such as common cold, headache, coronary heart diseases, high blood pressure, fatigue, stress, etc.  In addition, it improves social interaction among the staff members of the University.

 

The 11-day Staff 5-Aside football competition came to an end on the 11th December, 2014 with the Registry Department emerging the winner of the competition.  In a pulsating final game that took place between the Sports Unit and the Registry Department, the winner (Registry Department) emerged by beating the Sports Unit three (3) goals to one (1).

 

The Deputy Registrar, Mr. Victor Obadele, who represented the Vice Chancellor at the final game, presented trophies to the teams that emerged 1st and 2nd positions.  He, on a lighter note, canvassed for older staff members of the University to be allowed to participate in the next and subsequent editions of the competition. He expressed further that the competition should also be opened for female staff participation.
