The Nigeria Police Force has expressed determination to strengthen its security outfit around the Adankolo Campus of Federal University Lokoja and the Permanent Site situated in Felele along Lokoja-Okene Road. The assurance was made when the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Ali A. Janga, paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Angela Freeman Miri on Wednesday, 23rd May, 2018.
The Vice-Chancellor, who warmly welcomed the Commissioner of Police, also used the opportunity to highlight some of the achievements made by the University and the security challenges being faced especially in her bid to move the University to its Permanent Site in Felele. She said, the Management is making efforts to clear the place so that Remedial Programmes can commence fully at the Site.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police promised to deploy Policemen at the University’s Permanent Site on condition that permanent Police Posts are built for them. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police to respond to the University’s security demands at all times, saying, they are here to serve the good people of Kogi State. On the security challenges being faced at the Adankolo Campus, he said, he would direct the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area to ensure that patrol vehicles move around the Campus especially late in the evening to prevent unsuspecting students from being molested or robbed by hoodlums who hang around the University to perpetrate their heinous crime. He further encouraged the host community to also organize vigilante group that will assist the Police in curbing criminal activities in the area.
While thanking the Commissioner of Police for coming to identify with the University, the Vice-Chancellor quickly agreed that the University would provide the Police Posts as requested by the Police Commissioner. This would ensure prompt response to security threats and adequate policing at the University’s Permanent Site. She however, acknowledged the efforts and cooperation of the Nigeria Police, Department of State Security Services and other security agencies for ensuring the prevailing peace in the University Community.
